The Donahies Community School

The Donahies Community School Library is an oasis of calm in what can be a noisy school environment. The Library has a large selection of books catering for both students and staff.

First Year students are introduced to the Library early in the school year and can access books specially selected for the younger reader. Books ranging from the recently published "The boy in the Striped Pyjamas" the "Harry Potter Books" and "Jacqueline Wilson Series" to the childrens classics such as "The Secret Garden", "The Lord of the Rings" and "Goodnight Mr. Tom" are all availableto students, along with many more.

For older students there are over a thousand novels, biographies and autobiographies on display. There is a large selection of Reference Books and Encyclopedias for the more serious study, ranging from History, Science and the Arts, to Languages and Dictionaries. The Library also has many topical magazines on fashion, sport and celebrity lifestyles.

The school's "Toe by Toe"reading initative is based in the Library. This programme caters for children who may have encountered some reading difficulties. The programme is run with the assistance of transition year students partnering a first year student and assisting them with their reading skills in a relaxed environment.

A Book Club is run during the lunch break. Boardgames such as Chess, Monopoly, Dominos, and Jigsaws are available.
