Education in The Donahies Community School
Here at the Donahies Community
School physical education is an essential educational program. It is based on
physical activities undertaken in an active, caring, supportive and
non-threatening atmosphere in which every student is challenged and successful.
Students with disabilities are provided with a learning environment that is
modified, when necessary, to allow for maximum participation. Physical Education is based upon
the accomplishment of knowledge and skills that are the foundation for engaging
in physical activity. However, the mere attainment of knowledge and skills is
not enough. The mission of Physical Education is to empower all students
to sustain regular, lifelong physical activity as a foundation for a healthy,
productive and fulfilling life. The study of physical education
can be linked to the whole school aims, thereby assisting in the full
development of the pupil. Physical education and Games, through the focusing on
the body aims to develop control, co ordination, awareness, appreciation and
knowledge of the body in a range of experiences and worthwhile activities. The developments of social skills

the need for pupils to be aware of local leisure opportunities. The aim of the
physical education teachers here at The Donahies Community School is to support
