Social,
Health and Personal Education (SPHE)
Students of
first to third year are participating in Social, Personal and Health
Education for this academic year. This
is a compulsory subject on the junior curriculum and students at the Donahies
are timetabled with SPHE for one period a week.
The
SPHE course aims to help students learn about health matters, develop
self-esteem and to enable students to make healthy life choices.
While many aspects of the school setting can support the aims of
education and health, SPHE provides students with a dedicated time and space to
develop these skills and competencies, to learn about themselves, care for
themselves and others and make informed decisions about their health, personal
lives and social development. The types of topics covered are communication
skills, friendship, substance abuse, self-management, study skills etc. Students
are responding positively to the programme and have participated well in the
various role-plays and activities in class. I think students are finding the
subject helpful, and hopefully they will continue to develop the skills in their
daily lives. Thanks to all the SPHE
teachers for their commitment to the programme. |
